Council hosts free climate and nature emergency webinars

Cheshire West and Chester Council is working with The Mersey Forest and Cheshire Wildlife Trust to host a series of webinars looking at some of the actions people can take to address the climate and nature emergencies.

The short, lunchtime webinars are free to attend and will provide residents with advice and guidance from local experts on a range of topics related to protecting nature and the environment.

The Council has declared climate and nature emergencies in the borough and a Climate Emergency Response Plan is in place to help the borough to become carbon neutral by 2045, including suggested actions for residents and businesses.

The webinars will take place online on the following dates.

  • Monday 21 March, 12.30pm – Working with nature to tackle the climate emergency: The Mersey Forest discusses the important role land plays, from producing food, and sequestering carbon, to keeping us cooler, and managing water.
  • Friday 25 March, 12.30pm – For peat’s sake: The Cheshire Wildlife Trust discusses alternatives to using peat compost.
  • Wednesday 30 March, 12.30pm – Free for all: The Cheshire Wildlife Trust discusses upcycling and recycling to reduce consumption in your garden.
  • Friday 1 April, 12.30pm – Climate proof your garden: The Cheshire Wildlife Trust discusses adapting your garden for extreme weather.

Further information about the sessions can be found on the Council’s Climate Emergency Inspire site. To attend any of the sessions, please register online. The instructions for joining the online sessions will be emailed to you a few days before the webinar takes place.

Councillor Karen Shore, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways & Strategic Transport, said: “Our Climate Emergency Response Plan highlights the range of action that can be taken by everyone to address the climate and nature emergencies. These webinars will provide an opportunity to bring some of these ideas to life and break down, what can feel like an overwhelming topic, into easy-to-understand sections.”

There is also an opportunity to ask the experts presenting the webinars questions related to the topic, by completing the question section on the online registration form. If there is time, some of the questions will be answered as part of the webinar or responses will be emailed out after the event.
