CLASSIC PINTER PLAY SET TO HIT THE STAGE AT CHESTER LITTLE THEATRE

Rehearsals are in full swing, as a Chester-based theatre company prepares to return to a popular city centre venue.

Following on from its sell-out production of Ira Levin's "Deathtrap" at Chester Little Theatre last October, Chester based theatre company Against The Grain are set to stage dark comedy "The Birthday Party" by Harold Pinter at the Little Theatre's Salisbury Studio from Thursday April 13th to Saturday 15th at 7.30pm with a Matinee performance at 2.30pm on Saturday 15th April.

Written by acclaimed playwright Harold Pinter in 1957, "The Birthday Party" is one of his best known and most performed plays and was also successfully adapted for the silver screen in 1968. As well as productions in the UK and the USA, the play has been performed in numerous countries around the World and was also adapted for Television by the BBC as part of its 1987 Theatre Night season with the cast including Joan Plowright, Kenneth Cranham, Julie Walters and Harold Pinter. Other recent productions include an adaptation for BBC Radio 3.

Speaking about the play, Against The Grain co-founder Marian Newman said

The Birthday Party” is set in a small rundown Seaside B&B which has one permanent guest, Stanley, who has been living there for some considerable time.  Life is peachy for the landlady, Meg, her husband Petey and Stanley at the B&B until two menacing strangers turn up with an unhealthy interest in Stanley.  Following on from our production Of "Deathtrap" last Autumn, we are delighted to be returning to Chester Little Theatre with this funny, dark and disturbing play."

Against The Grain's production of "The Birthday Party" features Marian Newman (Small Tales, Mr Dumpling, Deathtrap) as Meg, Ray Bengree (The Prescribed Distance, Small Tales) as Petey, Mark Newman (Small Tales, Mr Dumpling, The Weir, Deathtrap) as Goldberg and Stuart Evans (Small Tales, Mr Dumpling, The Weir) as McCann. Joining Against The Grain for the first time are Richard Newton (The Ladykillers, Mindgame, Improbable Fiction) as Stanley and Natasha Emilia Williams (The Audience, A View From The Bridge, A Midsummer Night's Dream) as Lulu.
