Chester’s Lord Mayor will be one of the local dignitaries leading the Annual Service of Remembrance

This year’s Annual Service of Remembrance at Chester Cathedral takes place on Sunday 14th November, led by the Lord Mayor of Chester, Councillor Martyn Delaney.

A Military Parade will step off from Bridge Street at 10.10am and march to the Cathedral. Due to the ongoing pandemic, a full outdoor service is planned to start at 10.30am, held in the Cathedral grounds and St Werburgh Street. Members of the public are welcome to attend the service and viewing will be on St Werburgh Street’s footpaths and the surrounding area.

This will be followed by the Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial, in the Garden of Remembrance outside the Cathedral, at 10.55am when wreaths will be laid.

Councillor Delaney said: “We are still in the grip of the Covid-19 pandemic which has meant some changes to our service this year, it is clear however that Remembrance Sunday remains as important as ever.

“Members of the public are very welcome to attend the Cathedral service or one of the local ceremonies, to pay their respects to service men and women, past and present.

“I will also be commemorating Armistice Day on Thursday 11 November at 11am in the Garden of Remembrance at Chester Cathedral and I would also welcome people to attend this service.”

Servicemen and Women who gave their lives in conflict will be remembered in Chester on Armistice Day.  Chester Cathedral will hold its Service of Remembrance on Armistice Day, Thursday 11 November starting at 10.50am.

The short service takes place in the Garden of Remembrance at the Cathedral, led by a representative from the Cathedral.  This will be followed by the playing of the last post and a two-minute silence.  The Lord Mayor of Chester will also be in attendance.
