Chester Crematorium inspection reports excellent level of service

Chester Crematorium has been praised for providing a high level of service following its latest three-yearly inspection.

An inspection took place in July 2024 by an inspector from the Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities (FBCA) that culminated in a report stating there was an ‘excellent level of service provision’.

The inspection involved scrutinising six separate key areas of service delivery, through discussion and review of more than 80 points of interest.

The inspector found the facility to be operating in accordance with all the key areas of compliance:  statutory documentation, quality of the chapel and services available, grounds and memorials, plus service and staff.

In a letter accompanying a report of the inspection, President of the FBCA, Kate Davidson MBE, said: “The Crematorium Inspector found an excellent level of service provision and did not feel it necessary to make any recommendations.”

The service was awarded a compliance score of 97.4%. The national average score for such inspections is 95%.

The Council’s Cabinet Member for Homes, Planning and Safer Communities, Councillor Christine Warner said:

“We have a small but incredibly experienced and hard-working team who run the crematorium and it is thanks to their dedication and knowledge that the service has received such high praise.

“I would like to thank them for their hard work.  Their work requires tact and compassion, and they are absolute professionals who deserve this excellent outcome.”
