Here are the latest results for the Chester & Wirral Football League.
BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY, 4th MAY
The CWFL Life Members Cup final saw holders Mersey Royal Vets face Premier Division side Handbridge FC who were looking to take the trophy back to the open-age division. In a tight opening where both sides fought for dominance, it was Mersey Royal who broke the deadlock when Dave Rudge poked home from close range following good work from Chrissy Bowe. However, Handbridge struck back on the stroke of half-time as Rob Owen netted a superb solo goal to make it 1-1. They say football is a young man’s game and any thoughts that Handbridge may have had that Royal would tire in the second half was eradicated when Skipper and big-game player Stuey Jones rose highest to meet a free kick, planting a clinical header into the far corner to restore Royals lead. From that moment, the holders never looked like losing, and the result was settled late on when Bowe turned provider again, squaring for James Beattie to slot home from 10 yards.
WEDNESDAY, 6th MAY
In the CWFL Queensferry Sport Premier Division, Cestrian Alex produced a major upset by defeating the already-crowned champions Newton Athletic. A lone Josh Camy strike was enough to secure a 1-0 victory for Cestrian Alex.
FRIDAY, 8th MAY
Vets Division Two action saw Ellesmere Port Red Lions keep their title ambitions alive with a 5-3 victory over Eastham Vets. Steve Armatage (2), Ben Powell, Gray Davidson, and Scott Rowley all found the net for Ellesmere Port Red Lions, while Joe Crane (2) and Jon Mcanaspie provided the goals for Eastham Vets.
SATURDAY, 9th MAY
Chester’s Deva Stadium hosted two cup finals, starting with the Cayzer Shield between Chester Nomads and Championship winners FC Farndon. It was FC Farndon who took control after 15 minutes when Oliver Brown pounced on a rebound after Lee Parry hit the post. Andrew Walker doubled the lead on 25 minutes with a low, curling effort and despite a valiant effort from Chester Nomads, the league’s top scorer Lee Parry shifted through the gears in the second half to net a hat-trick, completing a 5-0 win and a memorable double for FC Farndon.
The Dee 106.3 League Cup final followed, featuring Upton JFC Reserves against Premier Division champions Newton Athletic. Upton JFC Reserves shocked the favourites early on when Joe Williams’ lofted effort found the net, but Tom Royle drew Newton Athletic level on 30 minutes following a slick counter-attack. Early in the second half, Ben Woodman grabbed the decisive goal for Newton Athletic from five yards out. Despite late pressure from Upton JFC Reserves, the score remained 2-1 as Newton Athletic secured the shield and their own brilliant double.
In Saturdays league action, Handbridge FC secured a 6-0 rout over Blacon Youth Reserves, led by a Jack Goodrich hat-trick, a brace from Luke Allen, and a goal from Rob Owen.
In Tarvin Precision Vets Division Two, Hartford FC continued their fine end-of-season form with a 2-1 win over Chester Nomads Vets thanks to goals from Raj Tandon and Tom Yarwood, with Mike Jeffs scoring for Chester Nomads Vets.
In Division Four, Wirral Masters Vets and Crossway Vets shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw; Kevin Leech netted a double for Crossway Vets while Ben Ellis and Danny Payne scored for Wirral Masters Vets. West Kirby Vets secured a commanding 6-1 win over Hoole Vets with goals from Nick Pickering, Jack Foulkes, Robin Lee, Justin MacDonald, Lee Bedding, and David Cowie, while Dan Eborall scored for Hoole Vets. Elsewhere, Dee Rangers defeated Nags Head 4-2.

Finally, St Anne’s FC defeated Hoole Wanderers in a nine-goal thriller, winning 5-4.
