CHESHIRE PLAYWRIGHT ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR STORYHOUSE LIVERPOOL BLITZ PLAY

Auditions have been announced for a brand-new play which is due to be staged at Storyhouse in Chester later this year.

Cheshire-based playwright Gail Young has unveiled details of auditions for her latest play "Waiting" which will be staged at the Garret Theatre at Storyhouse in November.  "Waiting" is the latest of Gail's plays to make the leap from the page to the stage following on from the success of her previous works including "Bouncing Back", "Head Over Heels", "Bothered and Bewildered" and "Cheshire Cats".

A reading of the play which is set in Liverpool during WW2, will be held at Tarvin Community Centre, Meadow Close in Tarvin on Wednesday 15th February at 7.30pm followed by auditions on Sunday 19th February at 7pm. The play will be staged at Storyhouse from Thursday 9th - Saturday 11th November 2023 and will be directed for Gail Young Productions by award winning local theatre director Yvette Owen. Tickets for "Waiting" will be available from April 2023, via the Storyhouse website.

Speaking about the play, which is loosely based on her own family's history in Liverpool, Gail said "Waiting is a WW2 drama about a hard-working Liverpool family trying to cope with the challenges and heartache that World War 2 and the Liverpool blitz bring. The family is ripped apart by the war and there is a growing feeling of helplessness in the face of an approaching enemy. As time passes, they wait, wait for letters from beloved children, wait for news of a son, a brother, a sweetheart now fighting for King and Country. They wait for instructions from the Government, wait for the sirens to sound and the bombs to fall."

Gail added "As this drama is relevant to millions across the world still being forced to flee from their homes due to war, violence and persecution, all profits from the November 2023 premier will go to UK for UNHCR. The agency works to provide the essentials these refugees need to survive, aiming to provide vital support from when an emergency breaks, until it is safe to go home."
