A Wrexham and Chester-based community theatre company is preparing to "go the full monty" at Theatr Clwyd, with a brand-new stage production of the award-winning film.
Following the sell-out success of 'Come From Away' at Storyhouse, community theatre company Tip Top Productions will stage 'The Full Monty' at Theatr Clwyd from Wednesday 10th June - Saturday 13th June at 7.30pm. There will also be a matinee performance at 2.30pm on Saturday 13th June.
Set in Sheffield against the backdrop of the decline of the steel industry, 'The Full Monty' is a hilarious, touching and deeply human story about friendship, pride, survival and finding hope when life takes an unexpected turn. Packed with sharp humour, unforgettable characters and enormous heart, the play became a worldwide phenomenon following the success of the iconic film. Written by Simon Beaufoy and adapted from his original 1997 award-winning film, the stage version of 'The Full Monty' received it world premiere at the Lyceum Theatre in Sheffield in 2013 prior to a UK tour. The show subsequently made its West End debut at the Noel Coward Theatre in 2014.
The production at Theatr Clwyd features a large local cast and creative team and continues Tip Top Productions’ long tradition of bringing ambitious, high-quality community theatre to North Wales audiences.
Speaking about the high demand for tickets ahead of opening night, the show's Director Peter Swingler OBE said:
"The company is thrilled by the response so far. After the incredible support we received for 'Come From Away' it’s wonderful to see audiences once again getting behind live theatre in such huge numbers. Demand for tickets has already been exceptional, with more than 2,000 seats sold and performances rapidly filling up with still a few weeks remaining before opening night. 'The Full Monty' is far more than people expect. Yes, it’s very funny, but underneath the comedy is a powerful and truthful story about ordinary people trying to hold onto their dignity and self-worth during difficult times. It feels just as relevant today as when it was first written.”
