BLUES MATCH REPORT - CHESTER FC 2 - 0 WARRINGTON TOWN

Almost 3,000 packed into the Leap76 Stadium to see Chester FC make it eight games unbeaten, with a 2-0 victory over Warrington Town.

It was an early strike from Declan Weeks and a late finish from Charlie Caton which sealed the points for Calum McIntyre’s men who move up to fifth.

A quiet opening ten minutes only saw one chance, with Matty Williams heading an effort just wide from a Weeks cross.

Weeks was involved again just after ten minutes, this time the finish was excellent.

Some great work from Kole Hall down the left hand side saw him get past Andre Wisdom at the byline.

The ball was fed back to Weeks on the edge of the box and he smashed a low effort past Daniel Atherton in the away goal, a fantastic start for the Seals.

Warrington bounced back with a massive chance of their own, but captain Josh Amis saw his effort float past the far post after being played in by Isaac Buckley-Ricketts.

With the half drawing to a close, Kole Hall forced a good save from Atherton with a volley before Wyll Stanway closed down Buckley-Ricketts to stop a quick attack.

The away side came out well in the second period, but couldn’t trouble Stanway, with Williams and Liam Edwards dealing well with the presence of Amis.

Around the hour mark the seals came alive, with Weeks almost grabbing his second goal of the afternoon with a decent curling effort from just outside the area.

Hall also continued to look dangerous flashing a couple of crosses across the six yard box, with blue shirts flying towards the goal to try and get that two goal cushion.

Blues’ captain George Glendon then got in on the attacking action, combining well with Elliott Whitehouse inside the away box before curling an ambitious shot just wide.

Charlie Caton was brought on for Owen Windsor midway through the second half and was immediately granted a golden chance from a Kieron Coates’ cross.

Unfortunately, the forward’s glancing effort flew past the near post.

Weeks and Hall both had good efforts before Warrington came close to equalising with just five minutes remaining when Sean Williams fired a great strike just past the post.

The chances were flowing for both teams, with substitute Iwan Murray firing a brilliant free kick that Atherton only just got his fingertips to.

Finally, deep into stoppage time, all three points were secured after Charlie Caton charged down a clearance before rolling the ball under Atherton in the Warrington goal.

That’s eight unbeaten now for the Seals, who move up to fifth ahead of the New Years Day trip to Warrington.
