Academics from the University of Chester have completed a gruelling hike for a charity close to their hearts.
Deputy Head of Psychology, Dr Shelley Price and Associate Dean of Research and Innovation, Professor Julieanna Powell-Turner hiked 11 miles along a coastal path in Aberystwyth to support Breast Cancer Awareness and raise money for Lingen Davies Cancer Fund.
This year, the challenging hike took on greater meaning to Shelley, who has now been diagnosed with Secondary (metastatic) Breast Cancer and who tackled the T!itty Trail just nine days after her most recent chemotherapy treatment ended.
T!tty Trail first began in 2023 and has grown year on year to become a large-scale cancer awareness and fundraising event. Lingen Davies host the trail in October to mark Breast Cancer Awareness month and since it began in 2023, Shelley and Julieanna have been taking part with the first one completed just five months after Shelley’s chemotherapy treatment ended after her first Breast Cancer diagnosis.
Their fundraising efforts are raising awareness about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, and to support future research initiatives for this terrible disease and hopefully prolong life expectancy for those diagnosed with primary and secondary breast cancer.

Shelley said:
“While it was a very challenging day it meant the world to me to be able to achieve this for myself and to be able to contribute and support such a life-saving organisation. The beautiful landscape helped to distract from the pain in the bones and muscles and the generous donations helped to keep us going. We are very thankful!”
Julieanna added:
“A fabulous day in the great outdoors with a very dear friend and the wind in my hair. Same time next year wherever it may be.”
