A man who assaulted a woman at a hotel in Chester has been jailed

Michael Wright, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to 30 months in prison at Chester Crown Court on Friday 28th August 2026.

The 31-year-old had pleaded guilty to assault by beating, criminal damage and inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.

On 5th June 2026 at around 10.10pm, police received reports of an assault at a hotel in Pepper Street, Chester.

Officers attended and the female victim was found with an injury to her face. Inside the hotel room, a mirror had been smashed, and Wright had lacerations to his hand.

He was subsequently arrested for assault and criminal damage.

The victim told police Wright had an argument with her, during which he hit her several times. She suffered a large laceration to her face and bruises.

Police Constable Gemma Yates said:

“No-one should have to be subjected to this kind of behaviour, and I welcome the custodial sentence handed to Wright.

“Not only did he assault the victim, but he also smashed a mirror during the incident, which must have been an incredibly frightening situation.
