The council's cabinet has approved the decision to reopen Over Children's Centre.
Cheshire West and Chester Council’s cabinet approved the reopening of Over Children’s Centre, based at Over Hall Community School, at a meeting this morning.
The proposals followed a thirty day consultation which had over one hundred responses.
The centre closed in 2015, Winsford has two other children's centres, Greenfield's and Wharton. Greenfields, which is one mile away from the Over site will now become a linked centre, offering services tailored to the needs of local families.
The End Child Poverty coalition released data in January showing rates of child poverty in the area. Over and Verdin has the highest rate with 31.66 per cent of children living in poverty.
Following these figures a report issued ahead of today’s meeting said that reopening Over Children’s Centre ‘will support those local families that need help most’.
Local councillor David Armstrong spoke at the meeting in support of the proposals saying:
"This is a much needed facility in an area where we believe it will get extensive use from local familes, some of whom live in very challenging cicumstances"
It's estimated the move will cost around two thousand pounds.
