Flintshire County Council has announced that Wepre Park, Greenfield Valley and Bailey Hill have all been awarded the coveted Green Flag Award for 2025—recognising them as some of the very best green spaces in the UK.
This international mark of quality is awarded to parks and green spaces that meet the highest environmental standards, are beautifully maintained, and provide excellent visitor facilities. Gaining Green Flag status is a prestigious honour and receiving it across three of our landmark sites is a testament to the dedication, care, and community spirit that sustains these natural treasures.
Cllr Chris Dolphin, Cabinet member for Environment, Regeneration, Countryside and Tourism said:
"We are absolutely delighted to have achieved Green Flag status at Wepre Park, Greenfield Valley, and Bailey Hill. This achievement reflects the immense effort and pride taken by everyone involved in maintaining and improving these spaces for the public to enjoy."
In Wales, the awards scheme is run by Keep Wales Tidy. Lucy Prisk, Green Flag Coordinator for Keep Wales Tidy said: “We’re thrilled to see 315 green spaces in Wales achieving the prestigious Green Flag status, which is testament to the dedication and hard work of hundreds of staff and volunteers. Quality green spaces play a vital role in the physical and mental well-being of people across Wales, and to be recognised as among the best in the world is a huge achievement - Congratulations!”
Flintshire County Council extends its deepest thanks to the site teams and the amazing network of volunteers who have contributed countless hours to the upkeep, conservation, and community engagement that make these parks so special. Thanks to their hard work and commitment, each site has been officially recognised as a leading green space—open, accessible, and sustainable. Especially Friends of Bailey Hill and Mold Town Council, Friends of Wepre Park and our valued park stakeholders, plus Greenfield Valley Trust and it’s supportive volunteers.
Wepre Park continues to be a beacon for biodiversity and family recreation.
Greenfield Valley offers a rich mix of industrial heritage and vibrant wildlife.
Bailey Hill, with its historical significance and scenic charm, remains a peaceful green haven in the heart of Mold.
Let this serve as a moment of pride for our communities, and a reminder of what can be achieved when people come together to care for the environment.
The Green Flag Award gives recognition to parks that have demonstrated the high standards of the Green Flag Award. Emphasis is also placed on local community involvement in the ongoing and long-term care of the award park.
A UK-wide partnership led by Keep Britain Tidy has been awarded the license to run the Green Flag Award scheme. Keep Britain Tidy will manage the overall scheme under license from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and will continue to manage day–to-day operations in England, with delivery in the other nations being overseen by its sister charities Keep Wales Tidy, Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful and Keep Scotland Beautiful.
