This week, staff at Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port plant took part in the ‘Vauxhall Mind Mile’ walk, as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.
For every staff member that completed the mile-long walk on Wednesday, Vauxhall donated £2 to the mental health charity Mind. Unite The Union also donated £5 for every Unite Shop Steward who completed the walk and also raised additional funds at the end of each walk from local donations. The Vauxhall Employee Charity also matched the Company’s donation of £2000. Vauxhall Ellesmere Port Employees donate to this charity. A total of £4330.90 was raised for Mind.
Mark Noble, Plant Director, Vauxhall – Ellesmere Port, said: “The past 12 months has been a very difficult time for everyone, including our employees and their families. To raise awareness of mental health issues and MIND the charity we have asked our employees to take part in the Vauxhall Mind Mile. The Plant will stop producing vehicles for one hour to enable all employees to participate in walking one mile around the Plant so they can talk to their friends and colleagues whilst raising money for a fantastic charity.”
John Cooper, Unite the Union Convenor, said: “The in-plant trade union fully support Mental Health Awareness week, together with the Vauxhall initiative of the Vauxhall Mind Mile walk. Unite members fully participated in the walk and all have a clear understanding of the issues surrounding Mental Health, which have been highlighted during the Covid-19 pandemic.”
