Cycle to School Week is almost here, running from 13th to 17th October, time to celebrate cycling in schools and communities across the country.
With over 160,000 pupils and 500 schools taking part last year, this is a fantastic opportunity to amplify the benefits of active travel and help children enjoy the freedom, fun, physical activity and confidence that cycling brings.
Families and schools can still make their pledges to join in, it’s not too late. From riding every day to discovering somewhere new, there’s a pledge to suit every cyclist.
Held annually, the nationwide initiative highlights the many benefits of cycling to school, from improved health to reduced carbon footprint.
Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Road Safety team works closely with Bike Right to ensure everyone has the training they need to take to pedal power.
The Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, Councillor Karen Shore said:
“Cycle to School Week is the perfect opportunity to boost your physical health, help the environment, have quieter safer roads and cut down air pollution at the school gates.
“If the whole family wants to get involved, check out the family bike training our Road Safety team has arranged with Bike Right. The same for adult cycle training – and it's all free!”
Schools in Cheshire West and Chester can request free Bikeability training to levels 1, 2 and 3 as well as Bikeability Plus Balance and Learn to Ride.

If you live, work or study in Cheshire West and Chester, and are aged 18 or over, Adult Cycling Training is available. You can get tailored training at a level suited to your needs, all based on the National Cycle Training Standards and split into easy to understand modules.
Family Cycle Skills is a free, fun training package to help people cycle together. The training will enable families to plan enjoyable group rides, switch from driving to cycling the school run, help other family members to develop their cycling skills and grow their confidence.
Sessions can be up to six people and there needs to be at least one child and one adult on each session.
