Whether it is horse racing … or stein racing … there promises to be something to suit all “tastes” at the next meeting at Chester Racecourse.
And the odds-on favourite will most definitely be on the name FUN as the first ever Oktoberfest themed race day takes centre stage on September 30.
Guests arriving in Chester for Oktoberfest can be sure of coming under several starters’ orders … from the horse racing to keg rolling, stein racing, stein holding, hammer striking and even sausage and pretzel eating!
And to ensure the day is one which will remain a talking point for many months to follow, a Bavarian Village will take centre stage at the world’s oldest racecourse, hosting an Oktoberfest sing-along.
Steve Davies, Chief Operating Officer at Chester Racecourse, said:
“We really are – literally – pushing the barrel out for this very special event here at the racecourse.
“This will be a race day like no other – and we hope it is something which people will always remember.
“In addition to a strong line up of racing at this eight-card meeting, there will certainly be something on offer for everyone, promising lots of excitement and fun!
“We really hope all of our regular guests, and many new visitors too, will want to come down and join in the day and immerse themselves in this first for Chester Racecourse.”
The gates will open at 11.30am for what is renowned as Watergate Cup Day with performances from Oompah bands, strolling accordion players and stilt walkers.
Chester’s very own version of the Mayor of Munich will get the Oktoberfest celebrations underway, walking down the track for the official cracking of the barrel.
The first race will be at 1.30pm.
And there will be an abundance of German beers and foods on offer, too, together with Bavarian dancers and a live DJ, throughout the day.
Ticket prices for Oktoberfest start from £15 in advance, with those wanting the most immersive Oktoberfest experience advised to purchase tickets in the Tattersalls and County Concourse enclosures. Children aged 17 and under attend free with a paying adult.
