Thousands turn out for annual Chester Santa Dash

Christmas officially arrived in Chester last weekend, as thousands of dashing Santas took to the city streets to raise money for two important local charities.

More than 2,200 participants donned Santa suits for the 14th annual Chester Santa Dash, a beloved city tradition held each year in aid of the Countess Charity and the Hospice of the Good Shepherd.

Families, adults and children sprinted through Chester on the 3.2k route, past the city's most famous landmarks including The Groves, Grosvenor Park, the Eastgate Clock and Chester Cathedral.

Sponsorship is still being received from the event, which was generously sponsored by Medicash, and the full amount will be announced in the next few weeks.

Angie Lopez, Head of Fundraising at The Countess Charity, said the event relies heavily on sponsorship and urged participants to return their sponsorship to the Hospice of the Good Shepherd as soon as possible.

"All funds raised will make a huge difference to both charities, so if you took part, please do return your sponsorship as soon as you can,” she said.

"A huge thanks to all the amazing helpers and wonderful participants that took part in this year’s Chester Santa Dash - the sun shone and the event was a great success.

"The proceeds for the Countess will support the Westminster Eye Unit's Retinal Scanner Appeal which will benefit the 40,000 plus patients that this busy unit treats each year, while The Hospice of the Good Shepherd will use their funds  to continue with the amazing work  that they do caring for our community,"
