Final rehearsals are underway as a Frodsham-based community theatre company prepares to stage an iconic multi award-winning musical which features the music of legendary rock band Queen.
Zodiac Theatre Group will stage 'We Will Rock You' at The Hammond School in Chester from 8th - 11th April at 7.30pm with a matinee performance at 2pm on Saturday 11th April. Featuring a live band, the production will be directed for Zodiac by Gareth Earl with musical direction by Craig Price and choreography by Joni Rusling.
Capturing the scale and spectacle of Queen's live performances, the show is a 'jukebox musical' featuring 24 of Queen's greatest hits including Killer Queen, Radio Ga Ga, Don't Stop Me Now, We Will Rock You, I Want To Break Free, We Are The Champions and Bohemian Rhapsody plus many more. Scripted by Ben Elton, the original West End production opened in 2002, becoming the longest-running musical at the Dominion Theatre.
The musical tells the story of a renegade group known as the Bohemians who struggle to restore the free exchange of thought and culture in a vaguely Orwellian society. Since its 2002 debut, the show has gone on to become a global phenomenon having been performed in more than 28 countries, to a worldwide audience of more than 20 million people.
Speaking about staging the iconic musical, the show's director Gareth Earl said:
"Bringing 'We Will Rock You' to life with Zodiac has been an electrifying journey from start to finish. This show is all about energy, individuality, and the power of live performance, and our cast has embraced that wholeheartedly whilst trying to put our own twist on it. It's fantastic music that audiences will know and love and we expect plenty of stamping and clapping along! We can't wait for audiences to see it"
