The Uniting Church in Garden Lane, which is an ecumenical partnership between the Methodist and United Reformed Church denominations in Chester, held its Harvest Festival Service on Sunday afternoon
The Harvest Festival Service had a congregation of around 40 including church members and friends from the local community. Leading worship was the Reverend Stuart Radcliffe, Missional Development Enabler from the United Reformed Church, Mersey Region. The organist was Matthew Baker.
There was a fine array of non-perishable items of food on display, rather than the traditional fresh fruit and vegetables in the church, the reason being, that the food was to be donated to the West Cheshire Foodbank for distribution to families in need.
The food had been very generously provided, not just by those attending the service, but also by customers at the nearby Goat & Munch Bar on Garden Lane who had been invited by the proprietors, David & Louisa Wilson to leave items of foods towards the Harvest Festival, which were then brought to the church on Sunday. Alan Johnson, the Church Secretary thanks David & Louisa for arranging the collection and also Tara and Martin from the One Stop Shop, and Majid of the Garden Lane Pizza, for their kindness too.
As well as all the friends in the local community who supported the occasion. Some 79.2 kgs of food was weighed in at the the West Cheshire Foodbank warehouse the next day - a very welcome amount, especially at this time.
