On Sunday 4th October, The Hammond’s Principal Jennifer Roscoe and over forty students and staff members completed a re-routed and re-scheduled London Marathon around Chester raising over £3500 (so far!) for CLIC Sargent and Nightingale House Hospice.
Miss Roscoe was due to run the London Marathon in April but it was cancelled because of COVID-19. Organisers of the race made sure runners still had the chance to take part by running the famous 26.2-mile marathon distance from home or anywhere in the world on the course of their choice. Miss Roscoe completely the first 17 miles on her own, with students and staff joining her at intervals to complete 10-mile, 5-mile and 3-mile runs.
Whilst we haven’t been able to welcome people to The Hammond for any events so far this year, we loved the opportunity to get out into the community and raise money for such fantastic causes. We are always keen to support and fundraise for local, national and international causes instilling the importance social responsibility and duty within our students – and the fact that so many volunteered to run on Sunday given their six-day school week is a testament to the wonderful students we have.
Following Sunday’s event, Miss Roscoe said: “I am so proud of the way Hammond students and staff have responded to calls to help others who are in need. Both CLIC Sargent and Nightingale House Hospice are very dear to us, and our young people have helped both charities continue to provide care and support. The spirit of the London Marathon was seen in all students and staff on Sunday, and together we have raised more than £3000.”

CLIC SARGENT is a children's cancer charity that Miss Roscoe has supported for a long time:
We were also privileged to run to support Nightingale House Hospice, in memory of our beloved teacher and colleague, Miss Chrissie Eccleston-Tuohy:

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported us along the way and to those who have sponsored The Hammond’s efforts so far. We are beyond appreciative.
