Record membership levels have been recorded by a group dedicated to preserving and enhancing natural beauty and biodiversity on a park on the Cheshire/Wirral border.
The Friends of Park Fields in Parkgate have been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Community Award for the 11th year in a row.
The Green Flag Community Award is the national standard for community-run green spaces, and recognises the hard work and commitment of volunteers who manage them. The award criteria include environmental standards, community involvement, health and well-being benefits and future plans.
Colin Nicol, who chairs The Friends of Park Fields, said:
“2023 has been a fantastic year for the Friends as we recover from COVID lockdowns.
“We have had a record amount of time spent by volunteers whose dedication has allowed us to continue to develop our educational area, wild flowers, pond and dipping platform, orchard, hedgerow and complete essential general maintenance. I take this opportunity to thank them all.
“Our membership is at record levels, members are so important to us and allow the Friends to continue to look after the Fields for the benefit of the whole community.”
The group members have again been complimented by Justin Madders, MP for Ellesmere Port and Neston, who said: “To have been awarded such a prestigious award for 11 years running is a truly outstanding achievement and I offer my congratulations to all concerned.
“It is no wonder that so many people want to play their part in help the Park Fields to be a very special attraction for all the right reasons.”
The Friends of Park Fields invite everyone to visit and enjoy the Fields which offer a variety of habitats and activities for people of all ages and interests.
