Teenage boy arrested following a fail to stop collision outside a Chester primary school

Officers investigating a fail to stop collision in Chester have arrested a teenage boy in relation to the incident.

The 16-year-old boy from Blacon was arrested at around 7.45pm today, Tuesday 22nd July, after presenting himself at Blacon Police Station.

The teenager has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop following a collision, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

He is currently being held in police custody.

At around 3.20pm today, Tuesday 22nd July, a 5-year-old boy was crossing Wealstone Lane, near Mill View Primary School, with his dad when he was hit by a blue electric bike, possibly a Surron Light Bee mini. 

The rider of the bike failed to stop and made off towards Plas Newton Lane.

They were described as wearing all black clothing, a black puffer coat and a black face covering.  There is also believed to have been a passenger on the bike who was also wearing a black top.

The boy was treated at the scene by paramedics and has since been taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital with serious injuries.

Enquiries in relation to the collision are ongoing and officers are urging anyone with any information or video footage to come forward.

Detective Inspector Ross Hamilton, of Western CID said:

“This is a horrific incident, and I understand the anger that it is likely to cause in the local community.

“Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and we are committed to doing all we can to identify the people  responsible.

“As part of our investigation were keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone with any video footage that may aid the investigation.

“I’d urge anyone with any information to contact the team here at Chester.”
