Taste Cheshire, the definitive guide to food and drink in Cheshire and We Love Good Times, Cheshire's online lifestyle guide have combined to help British Farmers with a campaign to highlight the best in British Farming.
The campaign will start today, Monday, with a week that features British Beef and Steak in particular, and the tag line – #MakeitSteak
It will be part of a UK wide campaign highlighting Great British Beef Week, launched by the Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board (AHDB) to try to help the plight of British Farming in the grips of the Corona Virus. Shoppers will know that getting anything other than mince in the supermarkets has been virtually impossible and whilst people assume that is their only choice, butchers, who are still open, are able to get a wide range of meats as normal and this is the message the campaign is trying to promote. Make it Steak is the first in an awareness campaign to try and kick start demand for British producers and ensure people are getting quality proteins as part of a balanced diet.
Taste Cheshire CEO, Stephen Wundke says, “We are delighted to be involved in trying to help our farmers. Now more than ever we need to source UK products and the chance to highlight the joys of steak in the coming week with special recipes, competitions and information is something we know our 30,000 followers are really going to relish. We plan to focus our attention on our farmers locally and our butchers, to try and help people have a better understanding of the supply chain. It’s something we feel very passionate about and this week is just the start of our journey.”
Izzy Grey, Proprietor of We Love Good Times, is similarly upbeat as she explains. “We have looked to support Restaurants and Pubs throughout this lockdown period with our Pay it Forward programme and are proud to be at the forefront of that initiative, it seems to me that this is just as important as we find ways to publicise the fabulous produce of the British Farmer. Our technology allows us to link customers with local butchers and retailers so that people can feel safe in their shopping and we will do everything we can through this campaign to connect shoppers with people who sell this amazing British Beef. I urge everyone to get online and join our campaign. Now is the time for us to buy British and buy local. It works for everyone.”
Both Taste Cheshire and We Love Good Times will be running their own on-line competitions during Great British Beef Week #GBBW where people can win £50 steak hampers, supported by prizes from retailers and up-coming events. There will be lots of opportunities to feedback on how customers are preparing their steaks, local chefs will be sharing recipes and some of our Celebrity Chefs will be providing cooking videos so all of us can work out how to fry, grill and BBQ British beef in the coming week.
AHDB Senior Manager Quality Schemes, Karl Pendlebury said he was thrilled to be working with these two iconic brands. “Our job is to try and spread the word as far as possible about the brilliant produce that is on our doorstep and Quality British Beef is just the first in our series of events that will try to connect British people with our British farmers. We will be looking to provide Taste Cheshire and We Love Good Times with a real insight to the industry across Cheshire and the UK during this association. The two company’s plans are exciting and I think everyone will enjoy not only tasting UK produce at its best but learning more about the people behind the products.”
Great British Beef Week and the “Make it Steak” Campaign runs from Monday 27th April until Sunday 3rd of May. For more information go to either www.tastecheshire.com or www.wlgt.com
