A workshop is taking place in October to plan how to help more women and girls in the borough get active.
Nationally, there are 313,600 fewer women than men who are regularly active; girls as young as five do not believe they belong in sport and, by the time they reach puberty, 1.3 million girls who once loved sport are disengaging.
Partners from across the borough, including Cheshire West and Chester Council and Active Cheshire, are working together to support a shift in the borough, empowering women and girls to be active in ways they enjoy.
An interactive online workshop takes place on 9 October, celebrating achievements in the past 12 months, hearing from local projects and listening to the opinions and ideas from attendees, ahead of shaping a joint strategy for the future.
Cllr Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, is chairing the event. She said:
“Keeping active is so good for your mental and physical health but there a lot of barriers putting women and girls off taking part.
“We held our first workshop last year, looking at how we can get the basics right, and this year’s workshop will build on that.
“As a Council we want to help all our residents to flourish, be happy, healthy and live their best lives. Breaking down the barriers to physical activity is part of that ambition.”
Partners are expecting a wide-range of attendees at the workshop, including residents, community organisations, grassroots sports, sports clubs, education, early years, leisure, transport, social care, health and anyone else who is keen to support and empower women and girls to be more active.
The workshop will take place online on 9 October, from 10am to noon.
