In our Welsh communities, we must work together to prevent violence and support those affected.
Violence affects people of all ages and backgrounds—women, girls, boys, and men. Whether it is physical, emotional, sexual, or financial abuse, no one should suffer in silence. In our Welsh communities, we must work together to prevent violence and support those affected.
Violence can take many forms, including:
•Domestic Abuse: Physical harm, threats, controlling behaviour, or emotional abuse from a partner or family member.
•Sexual Violence: Any unwanted sexual contact, harassment, or exploitation.
•Child Abuse: Neglect, physical punishment, or emotional harm to a child.
•Elder Abuse: Mistreatment or neglect of older adults, often by caregivers.
If you or someone you know is in danger, report it immediately:
•Emergency Services: Call 999 if you or someone else is in immediate danger.
•Live Fear Free Helpline: 0808 80 10 800 (24/7 confidential support in English and Welsh).
•Local Police: Visit your nearest police station or call 101 for non-emergencies.
•Support Organisations: Reach out to shelters, crisis centres, or advocacy groups in your area.
How to Stay Safe:
•Create a Safety Plan: If you are unsafe at home, identify a trusted friend, family member, or shelter where you can go.
•Know Your Rights: Welsh law protects victims of abuse—legal advice and protection orders are available.
•Use Safe Communication: If you fear monitoring by an abuser, use a friend’s phone or a secure computer to seek help.
•Community Support: Stay connected with neighbours, friends, and local groups for support.
Coping and Healing:
Experiencing or witnessing violence can be deeply traumatic. Support is available:
•Counselling and Therapy: Professional support can help you process your experiences and rebuild confidence.
•Support Groups: Talking to others with similar experiences can be comforting and empowering.
•Self-Care: Engage in activities that bring you peace, such as walking in nature, listening to music, or practising mindfulness.
Together, We Can Create Safer Welsh Communities
Ending violence is a shared responsibility. Speak up, offer support, and educate others. If you see something, say something—your voice could save a life.
