Pension Credit is a vital benefit designed to support people of State Pension age by providing additional financial assistance to those who qualify. However, recent figures indicate that many eligible pensioners are not claiming this entitlement, leaving them at risk of financial hardship.
It is estimated that up to £1.7bn is being left unclaimed with two in five of those entitled to receive it missing out on this crucial support.
Samantha Dixon MP for Chester North and Neston is holding a dedicated event aimed at raising awareness and increasing the uptake of Pension Credit.
The event will take place on Friday, 30th August with advisors from a range of agencies including Cheshire West and Chester Council, Citizens Advice, DWP, Age UK, St Mark’s debt advice and Cheshire and Warrington Carers Trust, available to offer guidance and support.
Further details of the event will be shared upon registration which you can do by contacting Samantha’s office by email:
samantha.dixon.mp@parliament.uk
...by phone 01244 343 299 or by post, Houses of Parliament, London, SW1A 0AA.
Commenting ahead of the event, Samantha said:
“Pension Credit has been available to be claimed for some time but its uptake has been woefully low. People of State Pension age could be missing out on over £3,300 of vital support, especially as we move into the autumn and winter months.
“Pension Credit can make a significant difference to those eligible, helping them maintain their independence and quality of life. Unfortunately, many are either unaware of their eligibility or find the application process daunting. This event is designed to bridge that gap, ensuring that everyone who is entitled to Pension Credit receives it.
“If you are already in receipt of Pension Credit, you may also be entitled to extra payments.
“So please get in touch if you’d like to attend or share this with someone you might know could be eligible for extra financial support.”
