Samantha Dixon MP is today marking one year since her historic election as the first ever Member of Parliament for the newly created Chester North and Neston constituency.
Reflecting on her first year in office, Ms Dixon described it as “an incredible privilege” to represent the community and to be part of a Labour Government committed to delivering real and lasting change.
Since her election on 4th July 2024, Ms Dixon and her team have supported thousands of local residents. Over the past year, they have closed more than 8,200 cases, sent nearly 15,000 casework emails, helped return over £1 million to constituents’ pockets, and held regular housing, pension credit and advice surgeries. Ms Dixon has also met with stakeholders across the constituency and engaged directly with hundreds of residents at surgeries, events, and on the doorstep.
In Westminster, Ms Dixon has played an active role in Parliament, including helping to take a Bills through the House of Commons, raising key local issues with Government ministers, and in her role as Vice Chamberlain to His Majesty’s Household acting as the ‘hostage’ at Buckingham Palace during the King’s Speech.
Samantha Dixon MP said:
“A year ago today, the people of Chester North and Neston put their trust in me to be their Member of Parliament — and it’s been the honour of my life to represent our amazing community.
“From helping thousands of residents locally to standing up for our area in Westminster, I’ve been proud to be part of a Labour Government that’s delivering real change.
“Whether it’s cutting NHS waiting lists, banning no-fault evictions, or launching Great British Energy to reduce bills and tackle climate change, we are working every day to improve lives — and I’ll keep working just as hard in the months and years ahead,”
Nationally, Ms Dixon has supported a wide range of policies already making an impact locally, including record investment in the NHS, the biggest investment in affordable housing in a generation, the expansion of free school meals, a ban on no-fault evictions, and new action to hold polluting water companies to account.
The local area has also been selected for a pioneering bus franchising pilot in Cheshire West, giving local authorities greater control over routes, fares and services. In addition, 200 military homes in Chester North and Neston are being brought back into public ownership to improve living conditions for service families and ensure better maintenance and accountability.
Ms Dixon concluded:
“It has been a fast-paced and fulfilling year, powered by countless cups of tea — but most importantly, by your support. Every conversation, every email, and every doorstep chat has helped shape the work I do for our community. Thank you for the trust you have placed in me. I will continue working hard to be a strong local voice and to deliver for Chester North and Neston.”
