A young kitten stuck in a cavity wall of a building which was due to be demolished was scooped to safety after being rescued by the RSPCA.
The animal welfare charity was called to reports of a possible trapped kitten at a building in Winsford Road, Chester.
On Monday (June 28) animal rescuer, inspector Anthony Joynes went to the premises to see if he could find the frightened feline and as soon as he approached the building he heard some frantic miaow sounds coming from inside.
The owners of the property, which has been sold and is due to be demolished, helped Anthony locate the kitten behind a cavity wall.
But the young cat kept moving around so it was difficult to get to him.
Anthony said: “The owners were really helpful and said I could smash into the plasterboard to get to the kitten as the premises were soon to be demolished.
“I managed to use the light on my phone to locate him through a small gap and then made some holes in the walls to try to get to him but as he was frightened he kept wandering off.
“I then left a hole at ground level in the wall and put some food down for him.
“ It wasn’t long before the hungry kitten came for something to eat and I was able to safely grab him.”
Anthony called the kitten Chester - after the city where he was found - and he took him to the RSPCA Wirral and Chester branch where he is now in foster care with a staff member and recovering well from his ordeal.
He is aged above five weeks old but is weaned so doing well on solid foods.
Anthony added: “We have no idea why Chester was in the building alone so I assume his feral mother had a litter of kittens in there and maybe moved them elsewhere but was unable to get to him because he was stuck so he was left behind.
“The main thing is he is now safe and well and enjoying lots of attention.
“He will be rehomed by the branch once he is old enough.”
