Roving COVID-19 vaccination clinics in Elton and Chester

Walk-in roving vaccination clinics will be operating in Elton and Chester this week, open to all adults over the age of 18.

NHS Cheshire’s COVID-19 ‘pop up’ vaccination clinics have been operational across the borough since 7 June but have previously only been accessible to those aged over 40 as they have only carried the Astra Zeneca vaccine. For the first time the clinics will carry stocks of the Pfizer vaccine which can be safely given to anyone aged 18 or over.

The Pfizer vaccine is available to all as a first dose to all and as a second dose to those who have already one dose of Pfizer providing there is an eight-week gap in between.

No appointment is necessary to attend the free mobile clinics. The clinics are open to all adults, including the clinics at the University.

The programme of walk-in clinics for week beginning Monday, 28 June, will be:

• Monday, 28 June - no roving clinic
• Tuesday, 29 June - Elton Community Centre (Astra Zeneca -restricted to over 40’s)
• Wednesday, 30 June - University of Chester (Pfizer – anyone over the age of 18)
• Thursday, 1 July - University of Chester (Pfizer – anyone over the age of 18)
• Friday, 2 July - Chester Cathedral (Pfizer – anyone over the age of 18)
• Saturday, 3 July - Chester Cathedral (Pfizer – anyone over the age of 18)

All clinics will run from 10am to 4pm (or for as long as vaccine supplies last).  There is no need to book an appointment in advance – just turn up on the day.

Cllr Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “Get a vaccine when you can. I am delighted that the mobile clinics in Chester have stocks of the Pfizer vaccine because it is available to all age groups.

“Some areas of Chester, particularly in the CH1 3 and CH1 4 postcodes, have seen spikes in the number of positive cases of COVID-19. We’ll have teams out in those areas this week door knocking to encourage people to get a one-off PCR test and get vaccinated. At both the University and at the Cathedral those attending the clinics can have both a vaccine and a test.

"Particular thanks must be given to the University of Chester and Chester Cathedral for their enthusiastic help in our drive to combat this horrible virus.”

Dr Helen Galbraith, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience) at the University of Chester, said: "Keeping our students, staff and also the public safe throughout the pandemic is of the utmost importance. We very much value our close working relationship with local public health teams, which complements the safety measures we continue to take within the institution, including in-house lateral flow testing.

"Over the past few days, we have been fortunate to welcome both pop-up PCR testing and now pop-up Pfizer vaccination units on to our Exton Park site. Although most of our students have now finished for the academic year, we are actively encouraging those still in the area – and staff – over 18 to be vaccinated. We are also proud to be able to help Cheshire West and Chester Council out with making this facility accessible to our local community."
