Road closure needed for tree safety works in Malpas

Tilston Road in Malpas will be closed from Monday, 14 December until Thursday, 17 December (inclusive) for essential tree safety work.

The works are needed on an embankment opposite the new development The Beeches and St Josephs Place.  A number of trees are in a poor condition and will be removed because they present a risk to road users and the properties opposite.

Works also include pruning back branches over the road that are starting to encroach on some of the properties.

The Council’s Cabinet Member for the Climate Emergency, Councillor Matt Bryan said: “Cheshire West and Chester Council understands the value of trees and their importance not only in terms of the environment, but the sense of place and wellbeing they provide residents and visitors to the borough.  However, in some cases trees need to be removed or pruned back where they have been identified as dead or being in a dangerous condition.

“All tree work undertaken is carried out following the policies within the Council’s Tree and Woodland strategy.  Where tree removal is a necessity the Council will consider if the site is suitable for replacement planting, if this isn’t possible the Council will look at alternative locations in the borough to plant replacements, as part of its response to the climate emergency.

“This week’s announcement that the Mersey Forest will be one of 10 Community Forests across England planting more than 500 hectares of trees over the next five months, as part of the Trees for Climate programme, will help combat climate change and further enhance our natural landscapes.”
