Flintshire County Council have secured funding for the re-development of four tennis courts in Mold.
Working in partnership with Aura Wales and the Alun High School, the existing tennis courts on the school campus/Mold Leisure Centre have been transformed into a new, multi-use facility.
The works include a new playing surface, four tennis courts with new posts and nets, two ‘3 vs 3’ basketball courts with fixed posts, backboards and hoops, one netball court with new posts, together with new fencing and lighting.
It has been funded via Welsh Government and the Sports Wales’ Court Collaboration Project which seeks to increase participation and widen access by investing in courts to revitalise and create shared spaces for basketball, netball and tennis in safe and inclusive community settings.
Councillor Mared Eastwood, Cabinet Member for Education, Welsh Language and Culture, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to see this shared vision with Aura and Alun High School come to life.
“Thanks to Sports Wales and Welsh Government investment, we can now bring these courts into use again for pupils and members of the public to enjoy tennis, basketball and netball.”
Construction work took place over the summer holidays and more than 2,000 pupils are now enjoying using the new courts. The facility will officially open to the public in early October.
