PREMIERE OF VIDEO GAME THEMED PLAY SET TO BE STAGED AT CHESTER THEATRE

Final rehearsals are underway at a Chester city centre theatre for a new play which takes a quirky look at the world of video games and gamers.

Written by Chester based playwright Andy Fox-Hutchings, "Pixel Perfect" runs at Chester Little Theatre in Gloucester St, Newtown from Saturday 28th June to Saturday 5th July at 7.30pm. The play will be directed for Chester Little Theatre by Charlie Nunez.

"Pixel Perfect" tells the story of Michael and Sophie who have an idyllic life, one that they’ve shared for several years, with every fine detail of their lives perfected and exactly as they dreamed it when they were little. The only problem is that none of it is real:  it’s a life built inside an online video game, and one that is about to get the plug pulled on it forever! Having never actually met in real life but feeling a powerful connection forged in the digital world, they agree to switch to reality to discover whether their bond can survive. Over one whirlwind weekend, the characters gradually pull themselves and their online personas apart in the attempt to find out if they really could survive Reality. Will love blossom in real life for the two gamers?

Speaking about the play, Charlie Nunez said:

"When I was a teenager I used to play “The Sims” for hours and enjoyed decorating my house and designing avatars that looked like the guys I fancied and I loved it! Who would have told me that, years later, I’d be directing a play based in the same game, but giving such a different experience? We live in a complex world and in this play, some of the different realities present in today’s society express how they feel and how a video game helps them cope with the challenges of living in the 21st century. It's has been a challenging experience but I have such a fantastic team both on stage and backstage, that getting ready for performance week has meant crying with laughter during rehearsals, having a very active group chat where we tease each other and, like in the play, supporting each other every step of the way. I Can’t believe it’s finally time for our audiences to see it!"
