A popular Chester busker is set to swap the city's streets for the stage with two special concerts due to take place in Chester city centre.
Usually found performing in the shadow of Chester's iconic Eastgate Clock, classically trained violinist Philip Chidell will stage the two concerts in the historic surroundings of Chester Town Hall on Saturday 14th September and Friday 27th September at 7.30pm.
The concerts are the culmination of a long-held ambition for Philip who has dreamed of launching an orchestra since he was a young student at music school. For both concerts, Philip will be joined on stage by his own 'mini orchestra', a hand-picked ensemble of 10 professional musicians.
The two special performances will showcase popular classical music including pieces by Elgar, Mozart and Strauss as well as hits from the movies and the best of the West End and Broadway, providing a magical evening of live music with something for everyone.
Philip began studying the violin aged six. Two years later, he was offered a place at the prestigious Chetham's School of Music in Manchester, becoming their youngest student at the time. Philip was soon performing around the UK, and at 13 played for the first time as a soloist with an orchestra. He has performed as a member of several ensembles and orchestras, in venues including the Bridgewater Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, Manchester Cathedral, Chester Cathedral and St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.
Philip has since gone on to become one of the most recognisable and popular buskers in Chester city centre where he performs regularly during the summer months, playing for residents and visitors alike using his priceless 274-year-old violin made by German luthier Sebastian Klotz.
Speaking about staging the two special concerts at Chester Town Hall, Philip said:
"Ever since I was a young music student in Manchester, I’ve dreamed of one day launching an orchestra. Finally that dream is coming true, and I’m delighted that the first concerts will be taking place in my home town of Chester. I’ve found 10 incredibly talented young musicians, all based in the north-west, and we’re so looking forward to presenting these two special concerts at Chester’s magnificent town hall. I’m hoping they will be a magical evening for the audience – perhaps the first of many!"
