One of Chester's most popular buskers is swapping the street for the stage this Christmas with two special concerts at Chester Town Hall.
Violinist Philip Chidell, who can usually be found entertaining residents and tourists alike in the shadow of Chester's iconic Eastgate clock, will be taking to the stage at Chester Town Hall for glittering festive concerts on Thursday 4th December at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.
Following on from the success of his previous concerts at the Town Hall, Philip will once again be joined on stage by his orchestra of 20 young professional musicians. Some special surprise guests will also make their first appearance alongside the orchestra to add an extra touch of magic to the celebration.
Speaking about the upcoming concerts, Philip said:
"Audiences can look forward to an enchanting celebration of festive music and orchestral favourites, filled with warmth and seasonal cheer. The programme will feature sparkling dances and waltzes, nostalgic melodies, and some of the most cherished Christmas carols – from the lively spirit of a winter sleigh ride to moments of quiet beauty and serenity. The orchestra and I are delighted to be bringing the joyous music of the festive season to the beautiful setting of Chester Town Hall."
Philip began studying the violin aged six. Two years later, he was offered a place at the prestigious Chetham's School of Music in Manchester, becoming their youngest student at the time. Philip was soon performing around the UK, and at 13 played for the first time as a soloist with an orchestra. He has performed in venues including the Bridgewater Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, Manchester Cathedral and St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. Philip set up his orchestra 18 months ago, fulfilling a long-held dream. Together, they have now staged five concerts in Chester, attracting large, enthusiastic audiences each time. The upcoming Christmas concerts promise to be their biggest and most ambitious performances to date.
