Politicians visit club going all out for accessibility

Deeside politicians enjoyed a visit to a club that has gone all out to make a welcoming sporting space for all.

Buckley Cricket Club fields several men’s and women’s teams, as well as the All Stars programme for five to eight year olds, and several junior teams from under nines to under 15s. The club wants to open this inclusivity out even further.

Club chairman Mark McManus said:

“We’re passionate about becoming a truly open, inclusive and accessible-to-all club. Mark and Jack have been instrumental in helping to source funding, and their support means that grassroots sports will thrive, fostering community inclusion and healthy lifestyles.”

The club was successful in securing funding from Cadwyn Clwyd to create ladies’ toilets and changing facilities and disabled toilets and changing facilities at the Grade I listed, former army barracks clubhouse. Next on its list is to tarmac the car park, which is currently gravel, to make it truly accessible to disabled adults and children.

“It’s been fantastic to meet members in person and see what a great set-up there is here for the community Buckley,” said Mark Tami MP.

“I’ll continue to seek funding opportunities for the club and support them in any way I can.”

Jack Sargeant MS is one of the club’s generous local sponsors.

He said:

“The club has some great support from local businesses but I’m sure they would be grateful for any further help towards making the car park fully accessible.”

On Sunday 26th May, Buckley Cricket Club’s third eleven are playing at home to Pontblyddyn. The bar and terrace will be open, with a barbecue and local band North Factory playing in the clubhouse. The public are welcome.
