Officers in Chester were out in force last weekend, as part of a joint operation to help keep the city safe over Christmas.
The operation, on Saturday 3 December, saw officers, including those from the force’s Special Constabulary, working closely with partner agency staff, to help make sure law abiding people in the city could enjoy their nights out safely.
As a result of the collaborative way of working, there were eight arrests, 16 dispersals, 60 door staff checked, 13 positive outcomes for possession of drugs, 18 licensing checks carried out, and 12 taxi’s stopped and spoken to.
Officers were also out stopping drivers as part of a crackdown on drink and drug driving, with one person arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
Chief Inspector for Chester Local Policing Unit, Mike Ankers, said: “Most people were out on Saturday night to have a good time, safely and responsibly. I hope the visibility of my officers around the city centre helped to reassure those people that we were working hard to keep them safe.
“There were some however who were arrested for a number of offences and causing harm in our community. This is not something we are going to stand for in Chester this Christmas and those people were dealt with accordingly.
“I want to give a special mention to Security Industry Association, Cheshire West and Chester council, Chester Against Business Crime, Purple Flag and Canine Inquest for their support on the night. It was a real show of strength and the operation would not have been so successful without their help.”
