Community groups in Cheshire are being encouraged to apply for an emergency fund set up by police and crime commissioner (PCC) David Keane to support communities through the latest national lockdown.
Grants of up to £1,000 are available for projects which are working alongside Cheshire police and local authorities to support vulnerable people in the community.
This could be projects which deliver emergency food parcels, provide care to those shielding or host virtual activities to relieve the pressures of social isolation on our mental and physical health.
The fund is part of PCC David Keane’s Safer Communities Fund which is funded by money taken from Cheshire criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act (PoCA 2002).
The PCC has awarded more than £75,000 as part of the emergency fund to communities groups or non-for-profit organisations across Cheshire since the pandemic began.
He said: “The latest lockdown means that many of us are again feeling isolated or have financial worries.
“The support we can give our neighbours at the moment is invaluable to ensure they stay connected with their community and can access vital supplies.
“This fund empowers local people to take action and support the wider commmunity through this crisis.
“It’s made a huge difference to the 69 community groups who have received funding since I first launched the fund in April and I look forward to seeing it benefit many more people in need.”
