NHS urges parents to grab their kids a jab alongside over 100,000 12 to 15-year-olds in the North West already vaccinated with two doses against Covid-19

NHS Leaders in the North West have called on parents across the region to take up the opportunity to protect their children as the NHS COVID-19 vaccination programme hit another milestone this week, with over 100,000 second doses given to children and young people aged 12-15 years old.

Youngsters in this group became eligible for the vaccine in September last year, with the vaccine delivered through schools, as well as through local vaccination centres. Vaccination teams across the region have been working hard to make sure children, and their families have the best protection against becoming seriously ill with the virus.

Dr Linda Charles-Ozuzu, Regional Director of Commissioning and Senior Responsible Officer for the COVID-19 vaccination programme in the North West said: 

“It’s really positive that so many of our young people have taken up the offer of a vaccine.  The vaccine is safe for youngsters in this age group and has made a significant difference in saving lives and reducing transmission of the virus.

“For maximum protection it is recommended they receive both their first and second doses. The vaccination is the best way to protect not only our children but, also their friends and family.

All children aged 12 to 15 are now eligible for a first vaccine. If it has been more than 12 weeks since their first jab, or 12 weeks following a positive Covid-19 test result – whichever is later, they can receive their second dose which can be booked through the online service or from your nearest walk in centre.
