Thanks to funding from Cheshire West and Chester Council the Deafness Support Network has announced the launch of its innovative new project, CAMEO (Come and Meet Each Other), a fortnightly social group designed specifically for D/deaf adults, their families and carers.
This exciting initiative will launch at an event on Monday March 11th from 11am - 2pm at DSN’s Northwich location, 144 London Road (CW9 5HH), offering a welcoming and inclusive environment for participants to engage and connect.
CAMEO aims to provide a unique platform for social interaction, health, and wellbeing activities, with sessions sometimes featuring guest speakers. The initiative reflects DSN’s commitment to fostering a supportive community for D/deaf individuals, encouraging them to come together, share experiences, and enjoy a range of activities tailored to their interests and needs.
Entry to the CAMEO sessions is free, ensuring accessibility for all, and attendees will be welcomed with complimentary tea and coffee, however for the launch event, lunch will be provided. This initiative is part of DSN’s broader mission to enhance the quality of life for D/deaf individuals and their families through meaningful community engagement and support services.
Kerry Clarke, Community Liaison Officer at DSN, expressed enthusiasm about the launch. She said:
“CAMEO is not just a social group; it's a place where connections can be made, and lives enriched. We are excited to welcome D/deaf adults and their families to join us in creating a vibrant, supportive community. It’s a fantastic opportunity for everyone to come together, learn from each other, and enjoy a variety of activities that promote health and wellbeing. We believe that CAMEO will make a significant difference in the lives of many, and we look forward to seeing the positive impacts unfold.”

DSN (Deafness Support Network)
Trustees of the Chester and North Wales Society for the Deaf, and of the Warrington and District Society for Deaf People, together made a landmark decision in 1976 to form the Cheshire Society for the Deaf, now operating as Deafness Support Network (DSN).
DSN is the service provider organisation for D/deaf* people in the county of Cheshire and the surrounding areas. These services are delivered under contract for Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, and Flintshire Councils.
*The word Deaf (with a capital D) is used to denote individuals whose first language is British Sign Language, whilst the term D/deaf refers to everyone with hearing loss: Deaf, deaf, deafened, D/deafblind and hard-of-hearing.
The local societies (Deaf Clubs) in Chester, Warrington and Vale Royal retained their independence and continue to thrive to this day, sharing premises with DSN. Each society serves a distinct local community but is strengthened by its partnership with DSN, which is able to innovate and develop, whilst acting as a guide and support for the local organisations.
