Motorcycle training and testing is to resume from 4th July in England, DVSA announced yesterday.
From 6 July motorcycle trainers can book a module 1 off road test and a module 2 on-road test that will re-start on 13 July.
Learner riders will be able to start motorcycle training and take a CBT course from 4 July. DVSA will also continue to work closely with motorcycle training bodies to make sure riders can learn to ride safely.
Candidates who booked their own test before the pandemic will have the opportunity to choose a new time and date before the practical test booking service reopens to the general public.
DVSA Chief Driving Examiner Mark Winn said:
“We expect more people will want to start learning to ride, as the current government guidance encourages people to use public transport less.
“It’s essential that motorists have the right knowledge and skills needed to help them stay safe on Britain’s roads. Getting the right advice from a professional motorcycle instructor is also vitally important, as motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users.”
Candidates who booked their own test before the pandemic will have their test put on hold and DVSA will contact them and offer the opportunity to choose a new time and date from 22 July. They will be given priority for the available appointments before the practical test booking service reopens to the general public.
Candidates who had a test booked through their training school should get in touch with the trainer and make a new test booking.
DVSA will announce the restart of motorcycle training and testing in Scotland and Wales subject to the devolved administrations’ lockdown guidance. Critical worker tests will continue and DVSA is keeping the situation under review.
Further guidance will be available on GOV.UK
DVSA will continue to monitor Public Health England and Cabinet Office advice on coronavirus and work with rider training associations to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
