Chester FC defender Matty Williams made his 100th Blues appearance last night at Rushall Olympic.
The centre back is just the 14th player to achieve the century feat since the club reformed, and joins his teammates Kevin Roberts, Declan Weeks and George Glendon in surpassing the mark.
Willo arrived at the Blues in June 2021 after being described as the ‘standout performer’ at the club’s first ever trial weekend and the subsequent two friendlies after the event.
Chester moved quickly to sign the imposing defender, and Matty repaid that faith by making a rapid start for the club.
Despite a disappointing campaign for the club in 2021/22, the defender had an excellent individual year, playing 35 times, scoring five goals and being named CFU Player of the Season.
His progression continued in 2022/23, stepping up in style as a more senior member of the defensive unit.
Williams made 44 appearances, scoring three times, and being a part of the statistically best defensive team in the National League North.
Such was his importance to the side, Williams was tied down for this season as early as March with a new deal.
This term, the defender has made another 20 appearances and continues to be a solid feature at the back in a side who have kept seven clean sheets in the last eleven matches.
