Chester FC Women were narrowly beaten in cup action on Sunday by Radcliffe, at the Leap76 Stadium.
Competing in the First Round of the Alliance Design and Print Plate, the Blues fell behind in the pouring rain after 18 minutes as Radcliffe scored a header from a corner.
The visitors doubled their lead before the break, as a whipped free kick from the right evaded everybody inside the area and found the far corner of the net.
Chester battled back after the break though as Emma Gray converted a cross from the left on 48 minutes to halve the deficit.
Evie Halliwell and Molly Wood were both denied by the visiting ‘keeper as the half progressed, and Radcliffe held on to advance.
There’s more cup action next Sunday for Martin Fitzsimons’ side, as they host Runcorn Linnets down CH1 in the Cheshire Cup.
Chester: Foster, Sands, Riley, Locke, Adderley, Dowell, Wood, Morris (Palin 79), Redman, Halliwell, Gray (Bradley 78).
Scorers: Gray 48.
