It was a comfortable afternoon for Chester FC as Charlie Caton, Harrison Burke and Tom Peers got the goals to blow away Peterborough Sports.
The first 15 minutes saw very little goal-mouth action at the Deva, but Elyh Harrison’s first action in a Chester shirt was impressive as he tipped over Eliot Putman’s whipped free-kick.
Charlie Caton continued his fine form just 19 minutes in though, as he produced a clever, low shot that beat Peter Crook after the forward latched on to an excellent Kurt Willoughby through ball.
It was Caton’s fifth goal in four games, and his current confidence was highlighted by the composure of his finish.
A two-goal cushion followed for the Blues just four minutes later, as Harrison Burke had the simple task of tapping home at the back post from close-range after a drilled cross that beat the Turbines’ defence.
Caton almost got his second goal just moments after Burke’s finish but Crook saved his powerful strike, after good build-up play from Willoughby and Nathan Woodthorpe, which was a key feature in the Blues’ performance.
There were few clear-cut chances for the remainder of the half, but Burke did have a couple of headed efforts comfortably saved before Willoughby smashed a half-volley over the away goal from around 20 yards out.
The second-half started in the same vein as the first ended, with Calum McIntyre’s side in control of the clash and appearing the most likely team to grab another goal.
Tom Peers added Chester’s third and his first of the season in the 71st minute when his shot from an acute angle was too powerful for Crook in the away goal who couldn’t react to the strike from the Blues’ Number seven.
Iwan Murray thought he had grabbed the Seals third immediately after replacing George Glendon when he tapped home at the back post but it was ruled out for offside and the lead remained at three.
The second half was a quiet affair in terms of opportunities, but it was a professional job by the Blues, who made it four games unbeaten.
Calum McIntyre’s men travel to Aggborough on Tuesday night as we look to build on our momentum that has moved us up to eighth in the table.
