An entertaining contest in Lancashire, on Tuesday evening, saw Chester FC pick up a well-deserved point against Craig Mahon’s AFC Fylde.
The hosts led early on courtesy of in-form striker Danny Ormerod who slotted a low finish past Murray-Jones.
Pat Jones scored his first goals in a Chester shirt either side of half-time, with two powerful, well-directed strikes that flew past Zac Jones in the Fylde goal.
Former Seal Taelor O’Kane levelled late on with a powerful header that gave George Murray-Jones no chance.
A frenetic start at Mill Farm saw the contest without an opportunity until James Jones’ powerful headed effort flew wide in the 13th minute.
The Coasters took the lead just four minutes later through young striker Danny Ormerod, who managed to poke a low effort past Murray-Jones and into the back of the net.
The 19-year-old almost doubles the hosts’ lead just before the half-hour mark with a close-range effort that was denied by a last-ditch block from Nathan Woodthorpe.
Pat Jones drew Calum McIntyre’s side level just after the half-hour mark, as he twisted and turned on the corner of the 18-yard-box before he drilled a powerful effort through defensive bodies and into the bottom corner.
Pat looked full of confidence and drove at the home defence again just four minutes later, but this time his powerful strike was pushed away by Zac Jones.
A positive response from Chester who were the side in the ascendency in the latter stages of the first period.
The momentum continued after the interval as P. Jones doubled his tally for the evening.
A quick move by the Seals saw Tom Peers drive at the home defence before he presented a fantastic opportunity that Pat accepted, with a fantastic strike that flew past Z. Jones into the top corner.
Danny Ormerod had a major opportunity to equalise mid-way through the second period with a powerful effort that crept narrowly over the top.
Former Chester midfielder Taelor O’Kane beat Murray-Jones with seven minutes left as he rose in the box and sent a well-directed header into the corner.
Calum McIntyre’s side pushed for a third late on with a number of corners in succession but the home defence stood firm and the points were shared.
We are back at the Deva Stadium on Saturday for a clash with Scarborough Athletic.
