Man sentenced for assault on Flintshire County Council officer

A man who assaulted a Flintshire County Council officer carrying out their duties has been sentenced at court.

The incident happened in August 2025, when a Council officer attended an address in Mynydd Isa in relation to an outstanding Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) for a parking violation.

While speaking to the resident outside the property, another member of the household came to the door and began speaking to the officer in an abusive and threatening manner.

The situation escalated as the individual continued to use highly offensive language and made threats of violence. As the officer attempted to leave the property, they were assaulted.

The incident was reported to police and the Council provided evidence to support the prosecution, including footage from the officer’s body-worn camera.

At court, the defendant pleaded guilty to common assault and was handed a £1,100 fine. He must also pay £300 compensation.

Gareth Owens, Flintshire County Council’s Chief Officer for Governance, said:

“Our employees have the right to feel safe and respected at work. No-one should face violence simply for doing their job and serving their communities.

“Assaults on our workforce are completely unacceptable, and we will fully support action to ensure those responsible are held accountable, including prosecution where appropriate.”
