A man has been jailed after admitting to violently assaulting a man outside a casino in Ellesmere Port.
Liam Gallagher, from Lancaster Gardens in Ellesmere Port, appeared at Chester Crown Court on 20th March where he changed his plea to guilty of Section 18 assault without intent. He was sentenced to 15 months in prison.
In the early hours of 4th October 2025 Gallagher was spotted by Local Authority CCTV staff walking in the middle of the road which drew their attention. They followed him on CCTV and he was seen to assault the man he was with more than once as they walked toward the casino. The CCTV operator immediately notified police and continued to monitor him.
When they got to the casino Gallagher inexplicably threw a concrete block at the man, knocking him unconscious. The man was taken to hospital where they found he had a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain. He was then rushed to Walton Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile Gallagher was located nearby by officers who arrested him on suspicion of assault.
DI Rupert Morrey said:
“This violent behaviour is shocking and could have had more serious if not fatal consequences. We aren’t even sure of his motives for this reckless behaviour as he went no comment in interview.
“However, our evidence against him was strong enough for him to plead guilty and he is now paying the price for his violence.”
