Detectives from Cheshire Police have arrested a man on suspicion of firearms offences following an incident at a takeaway in Ellesmere Port.
At 8pm on Sunday 23 May officers were called to reports that a woman and a man had been threatened at a takeaway on Whetstone Way, in Great Sutton.
Following enquiries local officers, supported by the armed policing alliance, attended an address on Grace Road, Ellesmere Port, at 9.30pm and arrested a 31-year-old man.
The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or harm. He is currently in police custody being questioned by officers.
Enquiries in relation to the incident remain ongoing and as part of the investigation officers are appealing to identify another woman who was believed to have been present at the time threats were made.
Detective Constable Michaela Burns said: “This investigation is in the early stages and we are working hard to establish exactly what took place. However, I would like to reassure residents that this is believed to be an isolated incident.
“While we have already spoken to a number of witnesses, I am keen to speak to a woman who is also believed to have been in the takeaway at the time of the occurred.
“I would ask the woman, or anyone else with any information which may aid our investigation, to contact the team here at Ellesmere Port on 101 quoting IML 995234.”
