Remembrance Sunday | Cheshire West and Chester Council
This year’s Remembrance Sunday will be even more significant as it will also commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe and Victory over Japan. The day will remember all those lost in the First World War aswell as subsequent conflicts and show support to everyone who have served, past and present. Remembrance Sunday is a time for our communities to come together for reflection and gratitude.
The Lord Mayor of Chester said:
"It is an honour to be part of this year’s events, especially at a time when many parts of the world remain affected by conflict and unrest. Now more than ever, it is vital that communities come together to honour and remember those who have been killed or injured, as well as those who continue to face the harsh realities of conflict today.
Chester has long been a proud garrison city, rich in military history. Remembrance Sunday offers a powerful moment for us all to pause and give thanks to our brave service men and women, and to the civilians who have supported them — past and present — for their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment."
The Chairman of Cheshire West and Chester Council, Councillor Bob Bisset said:
“Remembrance Sunday is a significant opportunity for Cheshire West residents to come together and pay their respects.
“On this 80th anniversary year of VE and VJ Day, Remembrance Sunday is our chance to give thanks to everyone who served and who helped re-build our communities after the world wars. In these globally troubled times, it is also important that residents come together to remember and thank those who continue serve in the British and Commonwealth Armed Forces today. Sadly, the world remains spolied by conflict and terrorism.
“I would encourage everyone across the borough to go along and support their local Act of Remembrance; details are on the Council’s website.”
The Very Reverend Dr Dean Tim Stratford, Chester Cathedral said:
“Remembrance Sunday is a day of reflection and remembrance for the resilience of the human spirit and the pursuit of peace. Chester Cathedral is the central point for all Chester’s remembrance events and we welcome all members of the community to attend regardless of faith, beliefs or background."
