A medical technologies and devices manufacturer, employing more than 650 people in Deeside, received a visit from the local Member of Parliament last week.
Alyn and Deeside MP Mark Tami visited Convatec on Deeside Industrial Park on Wednesday for an update on developments since his last visit.
Convatec has had a significant presence in Deeside since 1982. The company’s Chief Financial Officer Jonny Mason and UK manufacturing site leader Adeel Mushtaq hosted the visit. Mark also met leaders in the firm’s research and development and operations teams, as well as several of the company’s apprentices and summer interns.
He was given a demonstration of Convatec’s different products in advanced wound care and a tour of the facilities, including new automated textile lines and expanded clean room.
Mark Tami said:
“I’m impressed to see the level of investment that Convatec continues to make in UK life sciences manufacturing here in Deeside, and pleased that the company employs more than 650 people in the local area in high-quality jobs.
“I was also interested to hear more about its engineering apprenticeship programme, working with Coleg Cambria, and Convatec’s new sustainability internship programme.”
The FTSE 100 company has been operating from its Deeside facilities for more than 40 years, where it produces over 100 million dressings and innovative solutions for advanced wound care every year.
Jonny Mason, Chief Financial Officer at Convatec said:
“We were very pleased to welcome back Mark to the site. Our teams are rightly proud to showcase our leading Convatec Advanced Wound Care production facilities in his constituency, which have been part of the local community since 1982. We are grateful to Mark for his time and the opportunity to share more about Convatec's significant investment in the UK life sciences industry, including the progress we have made in automation, and to discuss our exciting product pipeline and future plans.”
