Ellesmere Port and Bromborough MP Justin Madders met Gavin & Stacey actress and Marie Curie ambassador Alison Steadman OBE in Westminster to support the charity’s annual Great Daffodil Appeal.
Mr Madders is urging people to donate and wear one of Marie Curie’s iconic daffodil pins this March.
New research from Marie Curie shows nearly one in three people are still dying without the support they need.
Donations help fund Marie Curie Nurses, who provide expert end-of-life care when there’s no cure, as well as the charity’s free support line and webchat for people living with a terminal illness and their families.
Justin Madders MP, a former shadow health minister, said:
“I’m proud to support Marie Curie and their mission to ensure that everyone at end of life can get the care and support they need, when and where they need it most.
“Every donation is a chance to ensure that more people receive expert care and support at the end of life.”
Alison Steadman OBE, loved by many for her role as Pam in Gavin & Stacey and her iconic performance in Abigail’s Party, said:
“As someone who’s supported Marie Curie for many years, I’ve seen for myself the incredible difference they make to people and their families at the end of life. They cared for my mother, and I will never forget the kindness, comfort and dignity they gave her. It meant the world to us.”
Matthew Reed, chief executive at Marie Curie, said:
“Marie Curie is working hard to ensure everyone has the expert care they need at the end of their lives, but we need the support of our politicians to fix this crisis. That’s why we’re so grateful for Justin Madders MP supporting our work and the Great Daffodil Appeal.”
