Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council has written to Joanne Anderson, The Mayor of Liverpool and Steve Rotherham, Metro Mayor of the Liverpool City Region offering support for the Liverpool proposal to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.
Said Councillor Gittins: “We know that Liverpudlians will rise to this challenge with enthusiasm and commitment. People across Cheshire are also cheering you on and looking forward to participating in an amazing event.”
The letter of support:
Dear Jo and Steve,
On behalf of Cheshire West and Chester Council, I want to express our support for your proposal to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.
Liverpool is such a proud cultural city, and globally recognised for its contribution to the music of the world. It is a fitting place to host the world’s most popular music event.
It has been heart breaking to see the devastation of Ukraine and the tragedies inflicted on its people. We hope one day to see Eurovision return to celebrate the liberation of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders. Eurovision held in Liverpool, with the strong support of your twin city Odessa, would be a further opportunity for this country and region to stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Ukraine, by celebrating the music of Europe and the World.
The City of Liverpool has the infrastructure and track record, and we know that Liverpudlians will rise to this challenge with enthusiasm and commitment. People across Cheshire are also cheering you on and looking forward to participating in an amazing event.
With best wishes
Councillor Louise Gittins
Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council.
